The Seattle Audubon Society was organized in April 1916, one of the earliest local organizations devoted to the protection of wildlife and the conservation of natural resources. Activities of the early organization included monthly meetings, bird walks, an annual bird census, formation of a Junior Audubon Club, and various efforts to preserve bird habitats in the Seattle area. Environmental and social activist, Seattle, Wash. Hazel Anna Wolf (1898-2000) fought for feminism, human rights, organized labor, and environmental protection throughout her 101 years. She was a prominent member of the Seattle Audubon Society and served as its secretary for 37 years.
